A message from the Minnesota Department of Transportation: Highway 212 J-Turn Safety Project to Begin May 4

"Beginning at 7 a.m. Mon, May 4, crews will close one lane in each direction of Hwy 212 between Hwy 5/Hwy 25/Co. Rd. 131 in Young America Township and Hwy 5/Hwy 25/Reform St. in Norwood Young America through fall 2026.

The lane reduction is part of the Hwy 212 J-turn safety project.
Workers will begin construction at the Wells Ave. and West Railroad St. intersections, where access to and from Hwy 212 will be restricted to right-in, right-out traffic for up to six weeks.

All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather and schedule permitting and subject to change.

We appreciate your patience while we make these improvements. Plan ahead by checking 511, and give yourself additional time to reach your destination.

Please drive with care in work zones:
• Slow down when approaching every work zone, then navigate with care and caution.
• Stay alert; work zones constantly change.
• Watch for workers and slow-moving equipment.
• Obey posted speed limits. The fine for a violation in a work zone is $300.
• Minimize distractions behind the wheel.
• Be patient; expect delays, especially during peak travel times.

More about this project
Beginning in spring 2026, crews will improve about 2.5 miles of Hwy 212 by building J-turns at Hwy 5/25/Co. Rd. 131, Wells Ave., Co. Rd. 31 and West Railroad St. Workers will also install cable median barriers. The J-turns will help reduce “T-bone” crashes and the cable median barriers will help reduce cross-median crashes. The project is anticipated to be complete in fall 2026."
