The History of 'West Carver Community Pool' to 'Das Pool Haus'

As the City continues to invest in meaningful improvements to community amenities, staff and the City Council have been thoughtfully discussing opportunities to both honor our past and strengthen our shared identity moving forward. One such opportunity has emerged in conjunction with the ongoing renovation of the pool house.

In recognition and celebration of Norwood Young America’s rich German heritage, which remains a defining and cherished part of our community's identity, the City Council has decided to rename the pool facility. The official new name that the Council has decided on is “Das Pool Haus,” which translates to “The Pool House” and reflects both a nod to our cultural roots and a welcoming, lighthearted identity for residents and visitors alike.

The new name is grounded in a broader commitment to preserving and promoting the unique character of our community. Norwood Young America proudly hosts Stiftungsfest, the oldest continuously running festival in the State of Minnesota, and this legacy continues to shape who we are today. Incorporating elements of this heritage into our public spaces serves not only as a point of pride but also as an ongoing opportunity to distinguish and market our community in a meaningful way.

At the same time, we remain deeply appreciative of the individuals and organizations whose efforts built the foundation we enjoy today. The Jaycees, whose leadership and commitment brought the “West Carver Community Pool” to life, will be honored through a dedicated display in the front entry of the renovated facility. This exhibit will highlight their contributions and ensure their legacy remains visible and appreciated for generations to come!

It is also important to recognize that this facility holds a unique place in the region, as it is the only outdoor public pool in Carver County. The recent renovations and safety upgrades will ensure that it continues to serve as a safe, vibrant gathering place for families and residents well into the future.

To celebrate these improvements and share the updated facility with the community, the City will host an Open House early this summer. Watch our media for information. This event will provide residents with an opportunity to tour the renovated space, learn more about the enhancements, and celebrate both the history and future of this valued community asset.

The City looks forward to continuing these conversations with the Council and the community as we honor our heritage while thoughtfully investing in the future.
